Harold and Maude – Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ckWTn-y5Rw

Young, rich, and obsessed with death, Harold finds himself changed forever when he meets lively septuagenarian Maude at a funeral.

Harold and Maude was originally conceived as a 20-minute film, written by Colin Higgins, then a UCLA film student during the height of the Flower Power movement of the 1960s. The script, which centres on a death-obsessed teenager who falls in love with a life-adoring septuagenarian – and consequently, with life itself – was written only a few years after Mike Nichols’ The Graduate had sparked interest in romantic relationships between young men and older women, at a time when the counterculture was questioning boundaries. Although the age gap between Higgins’ titular characters was much wider than Nichols’ graduate and his older mistress, Paramount pictures agreed to take on the taboo-breaking project when the script was sent their way. It soon landed in the hands of Hal Ashby, one of the more revered directors of the New Hollywood era, who’d just received an Academy Award for his editing on In the Heat of the Night a few years earlier.

This company owns the world (and it’s our fault) – BlackRock

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghP7kImI9WM

BlackRock: the company that owns the world. You may have never heard of them, but I guarantee they’re having some kind of impact on your life, your debt, the cost of things in the world around you, and even our environment.

I wanted to create a little bit of a different video here, to shine some light on some of the reasons the world is the way it is, especially in regards to the economic state of things. Sometimes, you might think that debt, credit, ownership, and prices are just the way they are by accident. But here, I’ll show you that due to the way the world is owned, a lot of this is on purpose.

This is scary. Really scary. And what’s concerning is BlackRock (and their main competitor Vanguard) is only getting more and more powerful by the day. But the good news is, the power is in our hands IF WE UNITE !

The dream was to get back to Nature, start an eco-farm and put as much distance as he could between his family and the industrialization of nature.

Until….. A wind park was planned at the gates of his paradise garden.

Iconoclast singer Cat Stevens has elevated introspection and spiritual quest to the rank of art.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gqmebyjv_44

France Swimberge paints the portrait of a multifaceted man, mixed with moving archive images of the young singer from the album Tea for the Tillerman.

Not far from the seven lives of a cat, and as many names. Steven Demetre Georgiou, Cat Stevens, Yusuf Islam, Yusuf and finally Yusuf / Cat Stevens… After the success of « I Love My Dog », the one who wrote and sold for $ 30, at 17, « The First Cut Is the Deepest « becomes the extravagant symbol of Swinging London, to which he brings the depth of his texts, darker than the norm of the time. The rock music scene of the time welcomed him with open arms, seduced by his erudition and his sensitivity. On the road with Jimi Hendrix from the age of 18, Cat Stevens burns his wings to the delirious success of his titles. Hospitalized for tuberculosis, he sees during his remission the beginning of a metaphysical path which will take him successively from Buddhism to Hinduism via Tao, Zen, astrology, numerology … The singer tries them all , before, in November 1979, to disappear from the radars, to announce later that he lost the taste of the guitar in favor of the study of the Koran. His rigorous reading of the holy book forbids him at first to touch a musical instrument: he leads the life of a father and soon becomes an influential Muslim figure in England by creating the first public Islamic primary school in the country. Drawn into the controversy that accompanies the release of Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses following his support for the fatwa launched by Ayatollah Khomeini, Yusuf Islam soon becomes infrequent to the entire Western press.

The star will return to the stage for the first time to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela, then more recently under the combined name of Yusuf / Cat Stevens. His identities reconciled, the artist now declares in an interview to see himself as a « mirror held out to Muslims and non-Muslims »: his music speaks to everyone.

The Big Questions in Science Q&A with Rupert Sheldrake

In the lead up to the upcoming online course, The Big Questions In Science, Advaya founders sit down with Dr Rupert Sheldrake to discuss why science must be set free from materialism and certain long-held assumptions that have now hardened into dogmas.

According to Rupert, the biggest scientific delusion of all is that science already knows the answers. The details still need working out, but the fundamental questions are settled, in principle. Contemporary science is based on the claim that all reality is material or physical. There is no reality but material reality. Consciousness is a by-product of the physical activity of the brain. Matter is unconscious. Evolution is purposeless. God exists only as an idea in human minds, and hence in human heads.

These beliefs are powerful not because most scientists think about them critically, but because they do not. The facts of science are real enough, and so are the techniques that scientists use, and so are the technologies based on them. But the belief system that governs conventional scientific thinking is an act of faith, grounded in a 19th-century ideology.

James Lovelock – Population Reduction « max 1 billion »

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBUvZDSY2D0

Top scientist James Lovelock discuses that the world population will be reduced and that this will happen in this century. And states, we would need a miracle to stop that happening! His body language suggest to me that he knows something with certainty…

Frank’s comment:

Are we really learning to live in a « diminished » world ? Only if we are ready to question our way of life can solutions come about. Give up the lie of progress & unlimited growth. Gaia being a self regulating planet, we can expect earth to regulate itself. Humanity has proved itself unable to manage itself. Do not be fooled by the illusion that humans are an intelligent species, we are herd animals like the lemmings & the bisons. Aboriginals in Australia might live for another 50-80.000 years, yes, but how many of us can ? Bacteria might be capable of mutating, trees & plants might transform co2 into oxygen, yes. Or will prince Charles single handedly extinguish the excess 8 billion people ? (see declaration at cop 26 Glasgow)

Inspiring Books

For more than seventy years, the Walt Disney Company has been an icon of wholesome family entertainment. Now Disney is under attack by family and religious organizations. Are the complaints hysterical censorship, or has Disney really lost its way? Investigative journalists Peter Schweizer and Rochelle Schweizer set out to find the answer. Exclusive interviews with Disney employees, internal corporate documents, and law enforcement records reveal a story of a great American institution corrupted by greed and perverted by the lust for power – and even more bizarre vices. The Schweizers reveal: how Walt Disney put safety first, but the current management allows Disney World to have an injury rate twice the industry average – for money; how Disney became a partner in the nation’s largest pay-per-view pornography distributor; Disney World’s rampant pedophile and sexual abuser problem – and how the company prefers cover-ups to simple and inexpensive solutions; the weird message Disney sends when employees are caught peeping on – even filming – coworkers and guests in their dressing room; how Disney thwarts the efforts of local law enforcement at its theme parks; and how Disney licensees have been repeatedly charged with violating federal child labor laws.

A Global Fertility Crisis – Dr. Shanna Swan

Are we on the eve of self-destruction through « living » in a chemical environment?

Shanna H. Swan, Ph.D., is one of the world’s leading environmental and reproductive epidemiologists and a professor of environmental medicine and public health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. An award-winning scientist, her work examines the impact of environmental exposures, including chemicals such as phthalates and Bisphenol A, on men’s and women’s reproductive health and the neurodevelopment of children.

In 2017, Dr. Shanna Swan and her research team made an alarming discovery: Western men have experienced a 50% decline in sperm counts over the past 40 years. How did this happen and what does this mean for our future?

Dr. Swan came to her conclusions after examining 185 studies involving close to 45,000 healthy men. The result sent shockwaves around the globe—but the story didn’t end there. It turns out that our sexual development is changing in broader ways, for both men and women and even other species, and that the modern world is on pace to become an infertile one—by 2050 a large section of the global population will need technological assistance to procreate.

Wisdom

For years I have followed the Betty Grable credo:
« say what you mean, mean what you say,
and throw a joke and a song in the mix now and then ».

– Grace Slick

Wisdom for our Confusion filled Age

Life isn’t always easy, but it’s good. Even though you might be facing challenges and difficulties, it’s a privilege to be alive. If you can stop chasing shiny objects and focus on the few things that actually matter, you can indeed live a simple and good life.

Keep in mind that nobody really cares about you or your problems and that you’re the only one responsible for the life you live. Make sure you’re surrounded by people who support your dreams (or at least don’t put you down). Avoid staying close to people just because you’ve already been close to them for a long time.

Keep in mind that money matters, and make sure you don’t waste it.

Don’t expect life to be fair. Create your own rules.

Don’t forget that making quick decisions is always better than making no decision.

Start as early as possible.

Do the hard things, so you can become more experienced and stronger.

Don’t believe in anyone being perfect. We all make mistakes.

Use social media to make your life better and richer.

The more time you spend ignoring certain truths, the more time you ultimately waste. Allow yourself to break that cycle and embrace the truths that might first be a little painful. In the end, it’s those truths that’ll help you live a rich life.

Inspiring Text

I had a wonderful childhood and wonderful parents, but there is one semi-traumatic memory that has burned itself into my brain: The times when my father essentially forced my family to play the board game Monopoly.

My dad’s rationale was sound: It was important for his children to learn about money and mortgages and renting and borrowing and how horrible their lives would become as they wasted their prime decades giving a large portion of their hard-earned after-tax income to passive extractor landlords and bankers.

It worked.

The end game

Ironically, Lizzie Phillips’s self-published Landlord’s Game was eventually stolen and re-branded by a man named Charles Darrow, who became the world’s first board game millionaire when he sold the rights to Parker Brothers (who went on to acquire 1,800 other games and sue anyone who tried to create an anti-monopoly game.) Parker Brothers was eventually acquired by General Mills, and in 1991, the massive $13 billion games monopoly Hasbro ate Parker Brothers whole. Today, Hasbro itself is owned by even bigger entities, including JP Morgan, Vanguard, and the world’s largest asset manager, the $9 trillion firm Blackrock.

Daisy! Daisy! Give me your answer true.

I’m half crazy all for the love of you!

It won’t be a stylish marriage,

I can’t afford a carriage.

But you’ll look sweet upon the seat

Of a bicycle built for two.

Michael, Michael, this is my answer dear

I can’t cycle, it makes me feel so queer

If you can’t afford a carriage,

bang goes this blinking marriage

Cos I’ll be blowed if I’ll be towed

on a bicycle built for two

Michael, Michael, the coppers are after you

And if they catch you, they’ll give you a month or two D

They’ll lock you up with wire,

behind a Black Maria

So ding your bell and peddle like hell,

cos the coppers are after you.
