Plukrijp.be vzw – Upside-down the good newsletter
2022 – week 26Upside down = instead of announcing what we plan to do
(& most often find out we do not need to do), we relate what we really did
Building communities of trust is fundamental
to healing our collective wound.
At Plukrijp, we offer spaces of transparency and solidarity.
The community allows people to encounter each other
in truth and so develop trust.
We do the garden for YOU
Plukrijp functions on your frequent visits & harvests. Take along for friends & neighbours, this way we recreate real networks between us all, breaking down the illusory restrictions that now still separate many of us from our fellow man = UBUNTU.
The updated list of vegetables & fruit that can be harvested this week is available on our website under the heading “Current Harvest” : https://plukrijp.be/en/op-dit-moment-te-oogsten
Plukrijp turns 15 this year – Change of plans!
In January, Frank and I announced a sabbatical year in 2022. This allowed us to create the necessary cocoon so that Frank’s departure towards the Light could take place in full consciousness and smoothly.
His death invites me to rethink the organization of Plukrijp and its garden.
The incredible fertility of the garden thwarted our plans to not cultivate the entire area and that fills me with joy. Thanks to the devotion, the loving attention and the quality of presence of Jojo, Joshka and Anthony, the garden offers a superb panoply of vegetables, aromatic herbs and berries in abundance.
During the summer, Plukrijp will welcome some additional volunteers to meet the needs of the garden. Do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested!
For the moment, I am investing myself so that Plukrijp is more anchored in the local landscape. This seems important and appropriate to me in the context of permaculture. More and more local people find their way to our garden and become familiar with the system of free donations. In my view, this new form of economy is part of our common future.
What I find important on a personal level is to continue to build a network and to maintain it in order to be able to live a life of quality, in simplicity, in generosity and in abundance.
My desire is to keep the essence of Plukrijp alive: a no-nonsense place allowing deep encounters, in honesty and authenticity. A place that inspires with its lifestyle of service and simplicity. Permaculture remains central and is transmitted in the form of a philosophy lived on a daily basis and gardening practices.
More later.
With Love
Martine
This week @ Plukrijp
We did:
Joshka has set up a new system for managing the tasks to be done on the farm. In the past, Frank was the one who decided every morning what would be done. This new instrument invites everyone to get involved and redistributes responsibility to the entire group of people present.
We held a felting workshop with a group Ubuntu from Heist-op-den-Berg to upgrade the less quality wool that could be hard carded
Harvested the potatoes on the right side of tunnel 3 and seeded winter leek for a long harvest this winter.
Seeded many kinds of cabbage on the left side of open tunnel 3.
Cleared most of the lines of salad and spinach at Hei and scratched in between, planted onion on the far end and seeded a few lines of new spinach and salad at the near end.
Weeded the carrots at Hei
Seeded mustard in the closed tunnels and a little spinach in the glasshouse.
Planted basil in the closed tunnels
Seeded chervil, parsley and coriander in the glasshouse.
Took out most of the summer purslane from closed tunnel 1, 2 and 3. We would like to have something besides purslane next year!
Tried some of our turnip seed to see if it’s still okay
Harvested and ate our very first melon; absolutely delicious! They need a bit more time, but very soon there will be beautiful big melons to enjoy.
Mowed the big grass field.
Placed benches at Hei and the end of tunnel 5. Enjoy the peace and quiet, the birds’ song and the vista!
Gave many tours to the neighbors and shared our abundance.
Anthony started cleaning and repairing our old bread stove so we can recommence baking our own sour-dough bread
Helped out our neighbors with the local festivities, the first edition of “de Trommelfeesten”, and enjoyed ourselves at the neighborhood café: Thank you Karl & Kristof and all our lovely neighbors!

Heart, Self & Soul: The Sufi Psychology of Growth, Balance, and Harmony
by Robert Frager
Heart, Self, and Soul is the first book by a Western psychologist to explore the rich spiritual tradition of Sufism as a path for personal growth. Western psychotherapy aims largely to help us eliminate neurotic traits formed in childhood and adapt to society. In contrast, the Sufi goal is ultimately spiritual: Yes, we need to transform our negativity and be effective in the world; but beyond that, we need to reach a state of harmony with the Divine. Full of stories, poetry, meditations, journaling exercises, and colorful everyday examples, this book will open the heart, nourish the self, and quicken the soul.

You are my essence. The Goddess is my mind. My life energies are your attendants. My body is your temple. Enjoying the objects of the senses is my worship of you. My sleep is your state of deep meditation. Wherever I walk, I am performing circumambulation of you. All my words are hymns of praise to you. Whatever actions I perform, they are all worship of you. O benevolent One!

Life at Midlife by Mary Anne Perrone
I am no longer waiting for a special occasion;
I burn the best candles on ordinary days.I am no longer waiting for the house to be clean;
I fill it with people who understand that even dust is Sacred.I am no longer waiting for everyone to understand me;
It’s just not their task.I am no longer waiting for the other shoe to drop;
It already did, and I survived.I am no longer waiting for the time to be right;
the time is always now.I am no longer waiting for the mate who will complete me;
I am grateful to be so warmly, tenderly held.I am no longer waiting for a quiet moment;
my heart can be stilled whenever it is called.I am no longer waiting for the world to be at peace;
I unclench my grasp and breathe peace in and out.I am no longer waiting to do something great;
being awake to carry my grain of sand is enough.I am no longer waiting to be recognized;
I know that I dance in a holy circle.I am no longer waiting for Forgiveness.
I believe, I Believe.
